Watch me Grow: April

Bates likes shovels. He loves to help his daddy in the yard and he gets to use the little shovels, so today at Target he got his own set of Bates size yard tools,. He wouldn't put his "shodvels" down so here they are- featured in our Watch Me Grow.
Wooooohhhhhhhoooo! Look Momma. Shodvels!

This past month has been amazing. Even with a trip to the ER with one super sick little boy, this month has be incredible. It seems we've turned another corner. Bates has been so fun, so easy (with the few occasional "I'm two!" episodes) and just so comfortable. He's been exploring more independently, playing by himself for short (very short) periods.

Nick and I have both commented on how great things are. I think it may have something to do with us approaching the being home a year mark! We are still a few months away from the "he's been with us longer than he hasn't" mark, but we're getting close.

Adoption is a never ending journey. It's a lifelong journey in judgment calls, attachment, bonding, and parenting and this month I feel like we've hit a new norm. It's been so wonderful to see Bates be secure enough to venture away from me, to play in his room, to want to get into his bed, eating great, being able to communicate, giving kisses and saying "luv you" on his own. All those things we've worked months for!

Other highlights from this month:
  • he's turned into an EATER! The boy can PUT down some food. I'm not sure where it's all going cause his pants still fall off, but he does eat!
  • he counted! We've been working on numbers, and letters, and colors in Tot School. He has ZERO interest in learning. He's all about the motor skill games we play. But the other day I handed him something, socks maybe, and said "one, two" (I try to count everything to him) and he looked at me and said "three, four, five!" Wahhooo! Boy genius, I tell ya!
  • he's repeating everything and his vocabulary is just exploding daily. The other night I said to Nick "seriously?" and Bates shouted "Seriously?" It was too funny.
  • we still have a love affair going on with the Mouse. Donald is a close second, but this boy loves him some Mouse. He'll bring you the "mote" and ask for "mouse, peas".
