Dedication
On Sunday, the 25th, we stood before our friends and family at World Outreach Church and dedicated our sweet Bates to the Lord. We dedicated ourselves to raise him in a Christian home and to point him to the Father.
We dressed him in his traditional Korean Hanbok. He was quite handsome, if I do say so myself. His daddy calls them his hammer pants!
When the service started it was all hands on deck to keep him quiet and entertained.
Finally it was time to go on stage. Pastor Jim anointed Bates with oil and then prayed for our family. It was a sweet time!
Three of Bates' buddies (Donovan, Davis, and Will) were in the floor wrestling over a ball. One of them would get it and the other two would dog pile him and try to get the ball. Oh the joy of boys! Well, I decided to mix it up with them and got down in the floor to wrestle them! Bates FREAKED OUT. He started shouting "MOMMA MOMMA MOMMA!" He crawled over to me and laid his head on my chest and just hugged me. He was worried I was getting beat up by those big boys and he wanted to protect me! So sweet! (And just for the record Bates, I can take them - and I can take you- NEVER forget that!)
We certainly are blessed to have friends who are just like family! Thank you for sharing in Bates' special day!

How to climb on the couch
step one.
pull off all the pillows of the couch.
step two.
find a pillow to use as a step stool. drag it into place.
step three.
step on pillow.
step four.
lift leg as high as possible.
step five.
pull yourself onto the couch. this requires some heavy breathing and grunting.
step six.
sit down.
step seven.
celebrate your victory.
step eight.
dismount.
step nine.
repeat above steps a hundred times, while momma watches.
step ten.
when tired of climbing, go into kitchen and promptly pull everything out of the cabinet.

some pictures
Yesterday we took Bates to the allergist. Luckily, he has NO allergies! Hooray! Since he was so brave during the prick test and so well behaved, we took him to Krispy Kreme for his first HOT NOW!
Last Tuesday we went to dollar scoops at Baskin Robbins.

We are about to head out the door to get a little boy a hair cut! It's so long, I figured I'd give him a new do. His daddy didn't like it too much! :)

And lastly, someone is NOT a fan of the gate on the steps! He's like a caged monkey!

NOLA
Last Wednesday we headed to Memphis with some good friends, Casey and TJ. We spent the night at my mom and dad's and the next morning we headed to catch the train bound for New Orleans. Bates got to spend a few days with his DD and Poppie (which is what I think we have decided to call my dad, maybe?)
We rode the train to New Orleans which was a blast. We had a good time, although Casey and I were FREEZING!
Once we hit Nawlins' we checked into our hotel, The Bourbon Orleans. The Bourbon Orleans is in the French Quarter on the corner of Bourbon and Orleans Street. It's a haunted hotel and is famous for the Quadroon Balls that were held there.

Once we were unloaded and freshened up, we hit Bourbon Street. We stopped in for a famous grenade and walked the street. We rode the trolley and decided to eat dinner at the casino. You know I'm not a fan of buffets, but a casino buffet I can do. After fully stuffing ourselves, we showed Casey how to play the slots. I think the most I won was $1.25 and she won $.75! We are high rollers. The boys played some card game for a bit, then we headed out.
On the way back to the hotel, we decided to stop at Pat O'Briens for a famous Hurricane. We sat out on the patio for bit and then headed inside to the dueling piano bar. I'm not sure why they call it "dueling" cause they just took turns, so I think it should be named the Double Piano Bar.
We had a BLAST! We requested several songs, one of which was ROCKY TOP! We all stood up and clapped and cheered and acted a fool (like some good ole rednecks!). I'm sure the whole place was staring, but we didn't notice cause we were just a clappin' and a singin'! We requested Copper Head Road, but our piano girl, Amy didn't know it, but we told her to learn it and we'd be back the next night!

There were two "wild mommas" in the crowd. You know the kind you avert your eyes from when they look at you and you are secretly laughing AT them, not WITH them. Well, I decided it was my mission to be their encouragement. Let's just say, I egged those two ladies on for quite a while!
It was a late night, so we weren't in a rush to get up and at 'em the next morning. Nick and I headed over to Cafe du Monde for some uber yumminess...

We met up with Casey and TJ and took a carriage tour of the French Quarter. David and his mule were great tour guides. We saw lots of sites- where the Louisiana Purchase was signed, Angelina and Brad's house, the 1st legal Pharmacy in the US, and on and on!

After our tour, we walked around the outdoor flea market and had lunch at Margaritaville (where the food was ok and the service was horrible!). We toured the French Market area and the French Quarter, with a 2nd stop at Cafe du Monde!
We headed back to the hotel for a nap and then out to meet up with our tour group for our Haunted Ghost Tour. We had done a tour like this in Nashville, but this one was so much better. We had a great time! Our hotel used to be (among other things) a convent, which housed and orphanage. Well, guess what floor the orphanage was on... 5th floor- OUR floor. Fun huh?

After the ghost tour, we had legit creole food at Coop's Place. The food was great, but again, service... not so much. TJ asked the waiter what he would recommend, and the server said "I'd recommend you read the menu!" Nice.
After dinner we walked around a bit more and then headed to an outdoor jazz club before calling it a night.
Saturday morning, we had Cafe du Monde for a third time (yum!) and then rode the cable car (not trolley) around the Garden District. Our car was full and a youth group of 35 decided to board- UGH! So needless to say, we hopped off and got a cab back. We grabbed some mufflaletta's and some snacks for the train and headed back to the train station to head back to Memphis!
We had a BLAST! It was a nice, quick, much needed get-a-way. Nick asked me a couple of times if I missed Bates. I did! It was weird not having to worry about what he would eat and having to entertain him. I sure missed him! I told Nick it was like it was "us" four months ago... and it felt weird.
Bates did fine. He was spoiled. He went swimming everyday. He had chocolate donuts and cupcake icing for breakfast... I'm not sure he wanted to come home!

play date
Today, Emily, Nate, Abby, Hallie, and Grant came over for a playdate.
Emily wanted Nate to "test drive" Bates' sand and water table to see if he wanted one for his upcoming birthday. Then Hallie asked what we were doing this morning, so it just evolved into a play date.
Here are some pictures from our day....
Grant hiding in the toy pile
Grant is mad, apparently.
Emily and Hallie, you are welcome to invite yourselves over anytime!
